The current political climate of India has reached a point where questioning the government over its accountability is equivalent to being an ‘anti-national’, a term that has gained momentum in the past five years.

Now that right-wing outfits have assumed supremacy in maintaining the so called ‘moral fabric and the law and order of the country’, another shocking incident came to light from Uttar Pradesh.

A group of Bharatriya Janata Party (BJP) workers on Wednesday, 6 March, thrashed a student during a shoot of a TV news channel’s talk show for speaking against the ruling government.

The shameful incident took place in UP’s Muzaffarnagar when a journalist was anchoring an election talk show “Mahaul Banaye Rakhiye” for Hindi news channel ‘Bharat Samachar’. The video of the incident has gone viral on social media and shows a group of men brutally thrashing a student and calling him a ‘terrorist’.

Dissatisfied with the responses of the student, identified as Adnan, the political workers began manhandling him, shows the video.

The video showed Adnan saying that the present government has failed in providing jobs to the youth, but was soon interrupted and beaten up.

As of now, no official complaint has been filed in the matter and no arrest has been reported.

Of late, there have been numerous questions about the Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh government and its failure over efficiently maintaining the law and order situation in the country.

On the same day, two Kashmiri men selling dry fruits on a roadside were assaulted by two saffron-clad members of a right-wing outfit in Lucknow’s Hasanganj area. The men were abused, slapped and beaten with a stick because of their identity and were swiftly rescued by some locals

When the attackers were asked why they were beating up the men, they replied that ‘they were Kashmiris’. The Kashmiri men were asked to produce Aadhaar card while they were constantly thrashed. The victims, identified as Abdul and Afzal of Kulgam, Jammu and Kashmir, came to Lucknow to sell dry fruits.
